NASA-Johnson Space Center: I participated in the co-op program with NASA-JSC and UT Austin. Starting in January of 2000, I worked through the end of the summer. Then, I returned during the summer of 2001 and continued until the end of the Fall 2001 semester. So far, I have enjoyed the amazing sights to be seen at JSC. It has been a wonderful opportunity for me. From January through May (during my first work tour), I worked in the Biomedical Hardware Development and Engineering Office. During the summer of 2001, I completed my term with the Flight Projects Division on the Bio-PLEX project and in the Anthropometrics and Biomechanics Facility Lab. During my first assignment I presented my work to Harris County Legislators in order to promote the funding of NASA-JSC student programs, and I recieved the Co-op award which includes a $500 bonus. During the second term, I accompanied former Center Director George Abbey, along with the assistant center director, the head of human resources, and the head of student programs in a meeting with Houston's Mayor Lee P. Brown. During the summer 2001, I concluded the co-op program working with the Biomedical Systems Division focusing on new exercise countermeasures technology. I gained a great deal of exposure to human factors in design and the design of the human to machine interface.
Continuing in the Graduate co-op program, I will return to the Biomedical Systems Division starting in the summer of 2003.
........but first comes graduate school!
